DUBLIN — The Lady Knights’ sleeves were full of aces on Thursday, as they whitewashed Pender High in a Four County Conference match at West Bladen, 9-0.
Not only did the Lady Knights earn the clean win, they didn’t allow the Lady Patriots to register a single game throughout the match.
In singles action, Josie Ludlum took an 8-0 win at No. 1 and the rest of the Lady Knights followed suit — Alicia Avellaneda won 8-0 at No. 2; Madison Staton won 8-0 at No. 3; Tatianna Sturgis won 8-0 at No. 4; Alanna Ludlum won 8-0 at No. 5; and Amber Long completed the clean sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 6.
The carnage continued for Pender in the doubles action.
Josie Ludlum and Avellaneda teamed up to take an 8-0 win at No. 1; Staton and Alanna Ludlum took an 8-0 win at No. 2; and the West Bladen duo of Long and Sydney Jackson shut out their Lady Patriots opponent, 8-0, to finish off the match.
Coach Jeff Atkinson’s Lady Knights improved to 2-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall.
— In Dublin on Thursday, the Knights held visiting West Columbus to just two shots on goal en route to a 4-0 non-conference win.
Clay Allen gave West Bladen all the offense it would need with a pair of goals, while John Waldrop and Jorcahei Monroy each added a score for the Knights.
Both of Allen’s goals came in the first half as the Knights took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Monroy found the back of the net early in the second half to up the lead to 3-0, and Waldrop scored as the match was winding down to seal the win for West Bladen.
In the nets, Brett Jackson and Anthony Sebastian teamed up for the whitewashing.
The Knights improved to 3-1 overall.
—In Elizabethtown on Thursday, the Lady Patriots of Pender High weathered a scrappy East Bladen squad to stay undefeated in Four County Conference play with a 25-13, 25-23 and 25-20 win.
With the loss, the Lady Eagles even their records at 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the conference. Pender improves to 7-2 overall, 4-0 in the conference.
— In Dublin on Thursday, after winning the first game by 10, the Lady Knights had to claw and scrap against a pesky Trask team before taking the final two games by identical 26-24 and 26-24 scores for a 3-0 Four County Conference sweep.
The win improves West Bladen to 4-4 overall, 2-1 in the conference.
Morgan Sweeney led the Lady Knights with 15 service points and three kills, while Courtney Thompson slammed home 11 kills. Taylor Stephens contributed 14 service points and Mallory Davis added 12 service points with six kills and five blocks.
