SHANNON — A 43-year-old Shannon man was arrested and charged on Saturday with sexual assaults on a teenage female that have been ongoing for eight years, according to Capt. Kathy Torre of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Santiago Sandoval, of 368 Bluetick Drive, is charged with attempted first-degree sex offense. He was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.

Torre said the victim is a 16-year-old girl. The girl’s name was withheld because of her age, and The Robesonian elected not to publish her address because it could potentially identify her.

According to Torre, Sandoval admitted that he committed the sexual assaults to Detective Sgt. Kevin Hickman, the lead investigator in the case. Torre said the investigation began after the victim’s mother reported the assaults to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
