CLINTON — The West Bladen Knights got hit hard early on Monday, giving up three goals in the first handful of minutes, and went on to lose a 10-1 Four County Conference verdict to Union High.
The Spartans went on to score eight first-half goals for an 8-0 lead at halftime.
West Bladen tallied its lone goal 10 minutes into the second half when Jorcahei Monroy played a throw-in from Seth Britt, juked around a Union defender and bumped the ball into the back of the net.
But the Knights, who brought just 1o players to the match because several had missed a practice last week, couldn’t establish any momentum. Union tallied two goals in the second half to seal the win.
West Bladen goalie Anthony Sebastian, who was under attack all evening, recorded 11 saves in the nets.
— In Dunn on Monday, the Raiders of Midway made a single goal stand up and defeated East Bladen in a Four County Conference match, 1-0.
The Raiders’ goal repoedly came when East Bladen players thought an offsides had occurred, but the whistle never blew to end play until after the goal was scored.
Eagles coach jay Raynor credited his goalie matt Massengill for keeping the match close.
