MONROE — A three-hour bus ride was only one hurdle the Eagles of East Bladen had to overcome Friday when they took on a solid Sun Valley team in a non-conference matchup.
The Spartans erupted for 23 unanswered points over the last three quarters to break open a 14-14 game and went on to take the 37-14 victory.
East Bladen faced deficits of 7-0 and 14-7 early on, but knotted the game both times — first on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Ty McMillian to Alex Stephens, and the next one on a 3-yard run by Jaylan Herring.
But fumblitis took its toll for the Eagles, as Sun Valley took a trio of fumble recoveries and turned them into points to extend the lead.
East Bladen, for the first time in more than 10 years, has started the season at 0-3. The will play at East Columbus on Friday
