ELIZABETHTOWN — Students recently guided their grandparents around the campus of Bladen Lakes Primary School during the school’s annual Grandparents’ Day Celebration.

The school provided breakfast for grandparents as well as an opportunity to have their photos taken with their grandchildren. The event was held Friday, Sept. 13.

“The school recognizes the important role grandparents play in children’s lives and wishes to thank all of the grandparents who help make Bladen Lakes Primary School a better place,” said Principal Reida Smith Roberts.

Grandparents’ Day was officially held on September 8. The tradition was started by housewife Marian McQuade of West Virginia, who wanted to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.
