ELIZABETH CITY — The Eagles soccer season came to end on Saturday at the hands of Northeastern High in the second round of the state’s Class 2-A playoffs.
Northeastern advances to the third round after a 5-2 win on Saturday, while East Bladen finishes at 11-11-2.
The Northeastern Eagles manufactured a 2-0 lead before halftime despite some stellar play in the net by Matt Massengill and the East Bladen defense.
The visiting East Bladen Eagles peppered the Northeastern net with shots throughout the game, and it paid off in the second half.
Freshman Logan Baxley and Senior Cameron West each scored goals for East Bladen after intermission, but Northeastern added three goals to seal the win.
Jose Diaz had an assist for East Bladen and Massengill was credited with seven saves in the nets.
Northeastern improved to 16-4-1.
