DUBLIN — The visiting Lady Eagles showed some early feistiness, but couldn’t keep up with the offensive firepower of West Bladen on Wednesday. The Lady Knights pounded out 13 hits en route to an 11-5 Four County Conference win.
West Bladen improved to 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while East Bladen fell to 8-4 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
The Lady Eagles opened the game with three runs in the first inning, the big hits a two-run double by Yolanda Coston and an RBI bloop single by Miller Heustess.
But West Bladen answered with a pair of runs in the home half on RBI single by Laikyn Pait and a run-scoring double by Courtney Thompson.
The Lady Knights knotted the game in the second inning when an error allowed a run to score.
Anna Brewer, Lexi Dawson and Abbey Norris all singled to lead off the third inning for East Bladen, but an error and stolen base set up Norris’ two-run hit to give the Lady Eagles a 5-3 edge.
West Bladen pitcher Nicole Wyatt settled down after that and held East Bladen off the scoreboard, scattering four hits.
The Lady Knights tied the game again at 5-5 in the bottom of the third Thompson singled, Wyatt reached on an error, Josie Ludlum ripped an RBI single and, moments later, Wyatt scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth, West Bladen took the lead for good when when Pait reached on an error and scored on Thompson’s triple that eluded a diving East Bladen left fielder. Wyatt’s sacrifice fly brought Thompson home moments later for a 7-5 lead.
After a scoreless fifth, the Lady Knights put the game away with four runs in the sixth. Taylor Stephens led off with a single, Pait reached on a bunt single, Thompson’s reached on a fielder’s choice that East Bladen couldn’t get anyone and loaded the bases, and Wyatt belted a two-run double to the gap in right-center. Ludlum followed with a two-run triple to dead center that gave West Bladen their final runs.
