ELIZABETHTOWN — With an overall record of 28-2 and a conference record of 13-1,the Lady Eagles varsity basketball team was a force throughout the past season.
Recently, the Bladen County Board of Education paid tribute to the 2013-14 team as a whole, its coaching staff and individual players.
The Lady Eagles boasted of having the Four County Conference’s Player of the Year in Lacey Suggs, as well as three players named to the all-conference first team in Suggs, Abby Ward and Asha Graham.
In addition, seven players were named by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association as Players of the game — Ward, Graham, Emily Scott, Suggs, Christiana Cromartie, Imani Turner-Dobson and Abbey Norris.
Leading the team to yet another season of success was Patty Evers, who was tabbed Four County Conference Co-Coach of the Year. She was also named the Cape Fear Region’s Coach of the Year by The Fayetteville Observer and the state’s Coach of the Year by the NCHSAA.
East Bladen tied Clinton for the conference title, won the conference tournament and advanced to the Eat Region semifinals of the Class 2-A state playoffs before falling to an undefeated Reidsville team.
