Body pulled from river

PEMBROKE —A body pulled from a river in Pembroke this morning has been identified as that of a 53-year-old man reported missing about two weeks ago, according to a statement from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.


The body of Delton Lloyd Cummings was discovered at about 8 a.m. in the river behind Best Fuel in Pembroke on N.C. 710 after a fisherman saw it and called 911, the statement said.


The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office and was identified late this afternoon. The cause of death has yet to be determined.


Cummings was reported missing on April 26. He was last seen April 25 at a home on Iron Horse Drive, which was destroyed by a fire at about midnight on April 26.


The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robeson County Search and Rescue and Fayetteville Canine Unit searched for Cummings, the statement said.


Cummings address is listed as South Oakgrove Church Road, Lumberton, but family members have said he is from Union Chapel.
