Individuals honored at Chamber banquet

DUBLIN — The Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet and awards ceremony on Tuesday night at Lu Mil Vineyard.

The 2014 award recipients included:

— Outstanding Chamber Member Award to Dan Allen, Four County Electric Membership Corporation

— Outstanding Small Business Award to Tim Blount, First Source Staffing Services

— Honorary Lifetime Chamber Member Award to Carl deAndrade, White Lake Marine

— Caring Person Award to Faye Womble.

Saying farewell to the Chamber’s board were Peggy Newman and Mike Davis. Incoming chamber board members were Brittney Woodell with the Bladen Journal, Lisa Clark with Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Todd Godbey with Kidsville News, and Tiina Mundy with Bladen Community College.

Current board member Charlotte Smith will serve as president-elect.

“We had a great turnout,” said Chamber Executive Director Dawn Maynard of the event. According to Maynard, 125 chamber members attended the event, which was catered by Inman’s Deli & Meat Market.

Maynard said one of the main functions of the Chamber is to promote businesses in the county and to help them grow through networking opportunities and other activities.

“If you are not a Chamber member, now is the perfect time to join,” said Maynard.

She said the Chamber’s year runs July 1 through June 30; membership costs $225 and up depending on the type of business or manufacturing category you are in. Maynard said if anyone is interested in joining the Chamber, they can call or stop by the Chamber office located at 129 E. Cross Plaza in Elizabethtown.

“If they call, I love to personally go and visit each new business and schedule a ribbon-cutting,” said Maynard.

Maynard said Chamber membership benefits a businesses through offering them the opportunity to network with other businesses in the area as well as providing information about their business when the Chamber receives inquiries from the public. She also said if you become a Chamber members, your business will be listed on the business directory that is currently on the Chamber website and you will receive a free listing when the Chamber prints its vacation guide.

“As a Chamber member you get to participate in Chamber events and activities,” said Maynard.

The Chamber banquet has been held at Lu Mil Vineyard for about five years. Maynard said she is grateful to Ron Taylor and Denise Bridgers for the help ands support they have shown the chamber their generous donation of the venue for the annual banquet and awards ceremony.

Maynard there are some upcoming events that folks may want to be aware of as well. They include the July 4 fireworks at White Lake, as well as the August luncheon meeting, which will be held at The Venue at White Lake, and the Chamber will also be partnering with the historical society and the re-enactors at Harmony Hall to assist with the Battle of Elizabethtown.
