WILMINGTON — In addition to the tornado warning for Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a wind advisory for Bladen County from 8 a.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday.

Beginning Thursday morning, sustained winds are expected between 25 and 40 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Strong winds will develop ahead of and especially in the wake of a strong cold front moving across the area Thursday morning. The strongest winds will occur later in the morning around 11 a.m. and continue through 5 p.m.

On wet ground, small trees could topple, and the wind could produce isolated power outages.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Precaution should be exercised while driving.

Loose furniture outside should be secured and caution taken while outside, according to the National Weather Service.
