ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen Journal office in downtown Elizabethtown recently welcomed Olivia Shaw of Dublin as the new customer service representative in the front office.

Shaw is a 2014 graduate of West Bladen High.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Olivia join our team,” said W. Curt Vincent, general manager/editor of the newspaper. “She is a bright, cheerful and energetic young lady who I think will be a perfect fit in that position.”

Shaw, who began her employment with the Bladen Journal on April 3 and spent the first week in training at The Robesonian in Lumberton, will work with those customers wanting to place classified advertising, extend or start subscriptions and submit information to the newspaper.

“Olivia will, in many ways, be the face of the Bladen Journal for those who walk into our office or call,” Vincent said. “Customer service will be a large majority of what she does along the way.”

Shaw comes to the Bladen Journal from Giorgio’s Restaurant & Pizza in Elizabethtown, where she was employed as a hostess/server since 2012. But she won’t be getting away from that job anytime soon.

Shaw will remain at Giorgio’s for the evening shift for the foreseeable future.

“I want to stay busy and I like what I do (at Giorgio’s),” she said. “But I’m also looking forward to the new position (with the Bladen Journal). I enjoy customer service (so) I look forward to meeting new people and learning the job.”

Shaw said she is hopeful that, down the road, she can begin taking early childhood education classes — most likely at Bladen Community College.

Customers who need assistance can reach Shaw at 910-862-4163 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
