ELIZABETHTOWN — Motorists can soon expect to see delays along Broad Street near downtown Elizabethtown as N.C. Department of Transportation crews begin work on repaving the road.

The project is slated to begin on Monday, Aug. 31, and West Broad Street will be paved between Harwood Street and Gillespie Street, while East Broad Street will be paved between Courthouse Drive and the N.C. 87 Bypass.

According to a release from NCDOT, the project will start with milling taking place on East Broad Street and then crossing over to West Broad Street. There is already a curb and gutter project underway on West Broad Street as well, according to the release.

The work is planned to be performed in phases and no detours are planned, according to the release. The project is expected to be completed by November, depending on weather conditions.

Johnson Brothers Paving Company of Lillington will perform the work at a cost of $929,200.
