ELIZABETHTOWN — Friday marked the first day of open filing for this year’s election, during which several incumbents and a newcomer took advantage to file for election.
The following nine Bladen County residents have already thrown their hats into the ring:
— Bladenboro mayor: Kenneth Kelly, of 207 Ivey Street, PO Box 609, Bladenboro, NC 28320
— Bladenboro mayor: Rufus Duckworth, of 200 Parson Street, PO Box 1300, Bladenboro, 28320
— Elizabethtown Town Council: Bobby Kinlaw, of 420 Tanglewood Drive, PO Box 1692, Elizabethtown, NC 28337
— Elizabethtown Town Council: Paula Greene, of 305 W. Broad Street, PO Box 2245, Elizabethtown, NC 28337
— Elizabethtown Town Council: Rufus Lloyd, of 2102 MLK Drive, Elizabethtown, NC 28337
— Elizabethtown Town Council: Herman Lewis, 2306 Alta Street, PO Box 422, Elizabethtown NC 28337
— White Lake Board of Commissioners: Paul Alexander Evans, 123 Lake Shore Drive, White Lake, NC 28337
— White Lake Board of Commissioners: Michael Johnson Suggs, 25 Johnson Street, White Lake, N.C. 28337
— White Lake Board of Commissioners: Timothy Glenn Blount, 63 Johnson Street, White Lake, N.C. 28337
Persons interested in running for a local office must notify the Board of Elections by filing a Notice of Candidacy. To be eligible, candidates must be at least 21 years old and live in the district they would like to represent in office. A $5 fee must be paid at the time of filing. A Notice of Candidacy can be submitted at the elections office, located at 301 S. Cypress Street in Elizabethtown.
The filing period for this year’s election will remain open until July 21 at 5 p.m., according to Bladen County Board of Elections Director Cynthia Shaw.
