in infant’s death

LUMBERTON — A Shannon man is in the Robeson County jail being held without bond after being charged in the death of a 16-month-old girl who died Saturday.

Christian Troy Clark, 23, of Rennert Road in Shannon, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to a statement from Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.

An autopsy Monday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh showed the child died of blunt force trauma.

Man charged with

animal cruelty

CLINTON — An investigation by Sampson County Animal Control at a Clinton property recently resulted in the discovery of eight malnourished dogs, along with firearms. The animals were seized and the man has now been charged with more than a dozen animal cruelty and weapons offenses.

Leon Taylor Jr., 46, of Clinton was served the charges in the early-morning hours Saturday following an investigation at his Nutmeg Lane residence, according to Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities.

Taylor has been charged with 15 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, two counts of possession of firearm by felon and possession of weapon of mass destruction. He was placed under $32,000 bond.

Child killed in

Monday wreck

SIDNEY — The State Highway patrol reported that an 11-year-old boy was killed Monday when his mother’s car was struck by a pickup truck on U.S. 701.

Joshua Clay Porter, a fifth-grader at Williams Township, was in the passenger seat of a car driven by Crystal Matthews of Chadbourn when the crash occurred.

Camerino Barron, 18, of Tabor City was traveling west on Peacock Road when he failed to stop for the stop sign and crushed the side of Matthew’s sedan. Barron has a Tabor City address, and Matthews lives in the Chadbourn area.

Barron has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Woman charged

with dog’s death

FAYETTEVILLE — A woman has been charged in the alleged starvation death of a Yorkshire terrier by failing to provide dog any food or water.

Nicole Marie Moore, 20, of Fayetteville has been charged with killing an animal by starvation and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.

Her bail was set at $5,000.
