HENDERSON — Authorities say a 2-year-old child has died after she was shot at a home in Henderson County.
Local news outlets report the child died after sustaining a shotgun wound Monday.
Maj. Frank Stout of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office says the child did not live at the home but was being cared for by someone there at the time.
Authorities say a woman made a 911 call saying the girl had been shot and was still breathing. The woman’s name was not released.
The child was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities say three other children were also at the home when the 911 call was made.
Stout says an investigation is ongoing and authorities are still determining how the shooting occurred.
