WHITE LAKE — White Lake Police Chief Bruce Smith confirmed that a child drowned in White Lake on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, a call came into the Bladen County 911 Call Center at about 12:30 p.m. of a child in the water near Camp Clearwater.

When asked about the incident, Smith said, “It did happen.”

He added that the department’s investigators were at Bladen County Hospital and no further details were available.

Bladen County Emergency Management Director Bradley Kinlaw said, “A good samaritan started CPR.”

He said when the White Lake Fire Department and White Lake Police Department arrived on the scene they took over CPR and the child was transported to Bladen County Hospital.

Kinlaw said he had no name, address or age of the victim.

Bladen County Chief Deputy Larry Guyton told WECT that the victim was 4 years old.
