WHITEVILLE – This month’s Open Minds Teen Science Café will be held at the Maze Craze on Friday, November 13 at 5:00 p.m. Teens and their families should meet at the Maze Craze at Galloway Farm, 372 Artesia Road, Hallsboro, where Alma Galloway, owner of the facility, will discuss the planning, farming, designing, engineering and actual cutting of this amazing 13-acre corn maze.
Participants are then free to explore this year’s maze and enjoy all of the other games and activities. There is also a 3-acre fairy tale maze for the younger participants. The first 20 OMTSC teens to arrive at the Maze Craze will be admitted for FREE! All other participating teens and their families will enjoy a discounted admission fee of $5. OMTSC is part of a nationwide program whose Whiteville node is currently funded by the Friends of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville, is starting its fourth year of free STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) programs for teens. The next OMTSC will be held Friday, December 18 at 5:00 p.m. at the Museum at Whiteville. Meet Sarah Glaesner, reigning Princess of Southern Carolina Queen, hopeful future Miss North Carolina, and aspiring Astrophysicist. She will speak about her work with the Miss America Organization, which encourages young people to pursue STEM careers. Miss Glaesner will also share information about her interest in black hole formation and existence.
