ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen County GOP announced recently its membership appointed Landon Bordeaux to the position of chairman and Walter McDuffie as vice-chairman.

Bordeaux said he was humbled when he was selected to serve as chairman.

“It is very humbling, but it’s a lot of work,” said Bordeaux.

He said he became involved in the community and wanting to make positive changes for the county after he graduated from UNC-Wilmington.

Bordeaux said that both Barbara Hines and Joyce Britt, who have both served as chairmen of the Bladen County Republican Party, have worked hard and left him with a good foundation.

“They have laid a lot of good groundwork before me,” said Bordeaux.

He did say that he has some new ideas he hopes will take shape.

“I’m going to do some things differently,” said Bordeaux.

He said that, in the past, Bladen County has always been a county where, if one wanted to vote in the primary, you had to be a registered Democrat. Bordeaux said in the past there have been very few Republican candiates to vote for in the primaries on the county level. Bordeaux said he hopes to see that trend slowly change.

“We are going to try to get some really good candidates to run on the Republican ticket,” said Bordeaux.

He said he has experience working with campaigns in the past and looks forward to assisting future candidates in the county.

The group meets the third Monday of each month. The location for the July meeting has not been announced. Bordeaux said that in the future he would like to see the meeting move around the county.

“I want to welcome everybody in the county to be a part of what we are doing,” said Bordeaux.
