ELIZABETHTOWN — Chrysta Carroll, a resident of Elizabethtown, has joined the Bladen Journal’s newsroom as a staff writer.

Carroll fills the position left vacant by former Staff Writer Erin Smith, who resigned in mid-October.

“Chrysta knows the area and a lot of people here, so I feel sure she will be a real asset to the Bladen Journal’s print edition and website as she settles into the position,” said W. Curt Vincent, general manager/editor of the newspaper. “Her solid educational and Christian background make her a wonderful fit for us, and I am looking forward to seeing her growth as a journalist here.”

Carroll holds a bachelor of science degree in special education from Appalachian State University. She has been home-schooling her son Tyler, 18, and daughter Allana, 15, and is active in her church, having written numerous Bible studies and how-to classes, as well as helped initiate several church classes and ministries.

She has also taught writing skills to elementary through high-school students since 1997.

“I am excited about joining the Bladen Journal,” Carroll said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the Bladen County area better and sharing what I learn with the newspaper’s readers.”

Carroll’s primary beat will include covering the Bladen County Board of Education and Elizabethhtown Town Council, but will also be responsible for numerous feature stories. She will also serve as the newspaper’s contact for the weekly Lifestyles Page — including wedding, engagement and birth announcements — and handle the daily obituary notices.
