BLADENBORO — A visit by Miss Bladenboro Outstanding Teen Anna Grace Allen and Miss Bladenboro Junior Miss Kallie Bass highlighted Monday’s meeting of the town commissioners of Bladenboro.

Allen will be competing in the Miss North Carolina Pageant on June 23-26 in Raleigh.

The two young ladies spoke about their platforms and commissioners heard that a womanless beauty pageant would be held soon to benefit Bladenboro Middle School.

Also on Monday, the issue of street paving came back before the board. In February the board awarded the contract for street paving to Sykes Paving Company of Bladenboro but did not decide whether to pave Pecan Street or Harmony Homes Drive.

After some discussion about how many residents were on each street. commissioners voted to pave Pecan Street.

In other action, the board:

— Voted to initiate a new policy for requesting public records from the Bladenboro Police Department, at the request of Police Chief Chris Hunt.

— Approved changes to the town’s sewer use ordinance.

— Awarded the concession stand contract to Italian Ice & Slush of Elizabethtown for the two parks in the town.

— OK’d the moving of veterans monuments from the Armory to the downtown area near the stop light on Main Street, as well as erecting a set of flag poles.

— Renewed the garbage collection contract with Waste Management.

The next meeting of the town board will be April 11 at 7 p.m.
