DUBLIN — Lu Mil Vineyard put its patented grapes aside for a few hours Saturday and allowed the tomato to take center stage for the first-ever Greater Tomato Sandwich Day.

Dozens of people from throughout the area visited to sample a variety of tomatoes — including heirlooms grown from original seeds, German Johnsons and greenhouse types — all put together by Lu Mil staff into sandwiches slathered with Duke’s mayonnaise.

All free of charge.

Also during the event, visitors were entertained by the band Oak Run, as well as offered rides on the double-decker bus.
