ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County First responders were busy Wednesday, responding first to a call at East Bladen and then, around 3 p.m. responding to a wreck that occurred in front of the Go Gas on 701.

A logging truck, driven by Oscar, was on Queen Street getting ready to turn right on 701 towards the Cape River River.

“I was sitting there trying to make my right turn,” he explained. “I looked to the left and waited for two cars to pass by, then started pulling out making a wide right turn, and I heard a sound like something under my trailer. I never saw her sitting beside me.”

A gold sedan, driven by a town employee, got lodged under the trailer, with the truck’s tires stopping short of crushing the car. The driver was taken by ambulance to Bladen County Hospital.

“She’s doing fine,” said Police Chief Tony Parrish. “A little shaken up, but she’ll make it.”

Traffic from the downtown area was rerouted around the library and behind the Go Gas.
