High school seniors donning mortarboard, robes

ELIZABETHTOWN – Now that schools are closing and students are getting out for the summer, students are preparing to zip up their robes and walk across the stages at graduation.

East Bladen will hold their graduation ceremony Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at Elizabethtown Middle School. Seniors are to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. Doors for graduation become open to the public at 4:30 p.m. and close promptly at 5:55 p.m.

East Bladen’s guest speaker of the evening will be Elizabethtown native Andre Gray.

Gray is a 1992 graduate of East Bladen High School. While attending East Bladen, Gray lettered in football, basketball and track. He attended Fayetteville State University on a football scholarship before transferring to Methodist College to play basketball. Gray graduated from Methodist College with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Wingate University.

East Bladen’s valedictorian is Miller Huestess, and the salutatorian is Grace Mcduffie.

West Bladen’s graduation ceremony will be Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m. in the main gym at West Bladen High School. Main doors will open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and will close and lock at 9:55 a.m.

West Bladen’s guest speakers will be seniors Nikki Locklear, Taylor Shipman, and senior class president Matthew Sturgill.

“We concentrate on featuring our seniors at graduation,” explained senior graduation director Susan Kelly.

Senior Nikki Locklear is West Bladen’s valedictorian, and Taylor Shipman is salutatorian.

For both ceremonies, neither entry nor re-entry will be allowed once the doors are locked.
