ELIZABETHTOWN — Only 31 days remain until Christmas — Christmas in July, that is.

Everyone can take a break from the hot summer heat and enjoy a cool day full of Christmas at the Bladen County Extension and Community Association’s summer event known as “Christmas in July” to raise money for scholarships.

“This is something we have been doing for many years; we got the idea from another community and it stuck,” explained ECA member Patricia Blackmon “It was a great way to bring in a large amount of money at one time.”

The event will be held on Friday, July 15, at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Center from 10 a.m until 2 p.m. There will be a salad lunch begining at 11 a.m. and the cost will be $5 per person.

The event is full of local vendors inside and oustside with differnent crafts, foods, gardening items and more. The event has 17 vendors in total right now and four spaces left. Booth rentals are $10 each.

“I am most excited for the knitting vendors — they always have such creative itmes like animals every year and I love to see what they make,” said Blackmon.

Blackmon said the event is a huge success every year and many people from the community get together and help support the ECA club raise money for scholarships and other local events throughout the year.
