Event to raise money for Kiwanis, emergency services

DUBLIN — The Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club and Bladen County Emergency Services are joining forces to raise money that will benefit the new Bladen County Training Facility and the Kiwanis Club’s children programs. Each organization will receive 50 percent of the net proceeds raised.

“We are going to have a lot of fun and we want you to join in,” said Charlotte Smith, public relations contact for the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club. “The fundraiser is called the Fifty-Fifty Fear Factor Fundraiser.”

Smith added there will be a Fear Factor Fun Run & Walk starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Lu Mil Vineyard in Dublin and, later at Dublin Motor Speedway, there will be a Mud Tug of War, Apparatus Race, a DJ, food, baked goods, a dunking booth, vendors and more until 2 p.m.

“We will have a trophy for the Apparatus Race winning teams, with competition between an EMS team, law-enforcement team and fire department team …” Smith said. “We hope to make this a yearly competition and pass the trophies around.”

The event is in need of volunteers to assist, as well as additional vendors and sponsors. Anyone who may be interested should contact Smith at 910-876-5393 or William Thompson at 910-734-5343.

“We are very excited about this event …” Smith said. “Please pass this information along to as many people as you know to help make this event a success for all.”
