LUMBERTON — Early Saturday morning, a Bladen County man was struck and killed by a train in Lumberton while lying on the train tracks, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Thompson, Nathan Cody Deaver was struck near 547 Singletary Church Road at about 5 a.m.

Deaver, 24, lived on Midway Drive in Bladenboro.

The train’s conductor told authorities that the train was traveling west toward Lumberton when he saw Deaver lying on the tracks, blew the train whistle and attempted to stop the train before striking him, Thompson said.
