BLADENBORO — The Lumber River Baptist Association has launched a Disaster Relief Initiative for the flood victims of Baton Rouge, La., and the public’s help is needed.

This area has been devastated by recent flooding and is in desperate need of help — and Moderator Thurman B. Everett is asking for help from all the churches in the Association. There are plans to take a tractor-trailer load of supplies to that area and have already started collecting items. The most needed items are cleaning supplies, brooms and mops, buckets, large bath towels, face masks canned goods and water.

The Brotherhood and the men of Bryant Swamp have already purchased a pallet of water from Sam’s at a cost of $365.98 for 60 cases. We also have financial donations from churches with which supplies can be purchased. The Association will make every effort for someone to be at the Assembly building to accept donations.

The contact numbers will be: Everett at 910-619-9358; Jethro Gilchrist at 910-544-9010; and Cheryl Shaw at 910-818-5994.

Bryant Swamp Baptist Church will accept supplies from any churches in the area. Contact Everett or the sextant, Morgan Purdie, at 910-863-3858. It will be announced through the Call Multiplier System the days that the building will be open to receive supplies.
