Plans change on a whim, and no more so than this week in Bladen County with Hurricane Matthew looming over the East Coast.

In addition to the closing of Bladen County Schools on Friday and the closing of the Bladen County Public Library branches over the weekdend, numerous sporting events were rescheduled. Following are some events that were originally scheduled for the weekend but have been moved or cancelled:

Cancelled

— The North Carolina Grape Festival scheduled for Oct. 8 at Lu Mil Vineyard. “We will not reschedule this year’s event due to the loss of the remaining grapes during the storm, and we are already in the middle of putting lights up for our annual Festival of Lights that begins Thanksgiving weekend,” said a press release.

Postponed, no date set

— Meet the Candidate Cookout by the campaign to elect Ashley Trivette to the Board of Commissioners originally set for Oct. 8

— Bladen County rabies clinic originally scheduled for Oct. 8 at Bladen County Animal Control

— The race series scheduled for Dublin Motor Speedway this weekend

Rescheduled for Oct. 15

— A benefit bike ride for J.T. Higgs will now take place at Lu Mil Vineyard instead of the armory. Registration is from 9-10:45 a.m.; kickstands go up at 11 a.m. Cost is $20 for a single rider and $25 for double riders and includes a meal. A Boston butt plate sale will be available to the public for $7. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, raffle, auction, cake walk, door prizes, and shirts for sale.

— The E’town Ramp Massacre skateboarding competition originally scheduled for Oct. 8 will take place Oct. 15 from noon until 7 p.m. at the skate park in Elizabethtown.

— The BBQ plate sale to benefit Carolina Crossroads has been moved to Oct. 15. All tickets bought for Oct. 8 will be honored. Eat in or take out plates still available for $7, which includes BBQ, baked beans, and slaw. Baked goods will be available for purchase as well.

— The Johnson’s fish fry will take place from noon until 3 p.m.
