ELIZABETHTOWN —A murder suspect who was arrested in Maryland in late July has now been extradited back to North Carolina.

Chief Deputy Rodney Hester with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that Garry Tyrell McCray Jr., 26, of Salisbury, Md., was returned to Bladen County just before midnight Monday. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is in the Bladen County Jail without bond.

Four years of thorough investigation paid off for the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office with the arrest of two individuals in connection with a murder that took place in February 2010.

According to Hester, deputies found Johnnie Terrel Jessup, 31, lying dead in the front yard of a residence on Old Hickory Lane in Elizabethtown shortly after 10 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2010.

Donyee Bowman Jessup, 29, of Fayetteville, who was the wife of the victim, was arrested without incident on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. McCray, her alleged accomplice, was also arrested without incident in Eden, Md.

“The investigation revealed that the two conspired to kill Johnnie Terrel Jessup,” Hester said. “Both have been charged with first-degree murder.”

Donyee Jessup is also being held in the Bladen County Jail without bond, Hester said.

“I am extremely proud that the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office was able to solve this case,” Hester said. “Over four years of time and effort went into this homicide case, and it was solved with good, old-fashioned investigative work.”

Hester added that the investigation remains ongoing.
