WHITEVILLE – On Wednesday, a Columbus County Grand Jury indicted attorney Randy Lemay Cartrette on five counts of felony obstruction of justice.

Cartrette, who practiced law in Columbus County, was due to appear in Columbus County court on Monday, Dec. 14. Cartrette has additional pending cases and was previously scheduled to appear in court the same day. Cartrette is currently represented by Columbus County attorney “Harold” Pope.

District Attorney Ernie Lee of the 4th Prosecutorial District has been assigned as a special prosecutor to handle this matter.

The Grand Jury decision followed a complete and thorough investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation that focused on improperly obtaining Limited Driving Privileges through the Columbus County Court system.
