ELIZABETHTOWN —A Bladenboro man was sentenced to prison for 420 to 564 month as a level five felon after being found guilty of first-degree sexual offence with a child under the age of 13.

John Owen Jacobs, 44, plead guilty in Bladen County Superior Court Tuesday after a week-long jury trial.

According to courft records, the incident took place on April 25, 2013, in Bladenboro. On that date, John Jacobs committed a sexual offense with an 11 year-old girl at his residence. The victim reported the crime to her teachers at school, who then informed the proper authorities at the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department and the Bladen County Department of Social Services.

Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sue Lutz worked the case to procure all the necessary evidence for a successful prosecution of this case. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Daniel Thurston and Irene Graham Riel.
