ELIZABETHTOWN — A Bladen County man will be spending at least the next 30 years in prison for the beating death of his girlfriend in 2014.

Kelvin Donta McKeithan, 34, pled guilty in Bladen County Superior Court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Mary Council at her Clarkton home on May 3, 2014. McKeithan reportedly beat Council to death with a wooden cane.

McKeithan, who pled guilty to one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree kidnapping, was sentenced to between 30 and 38 years in the Department of Adult Corrections.

The case was investigated by Detective Morgan Johnson with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Glenn Emery.
