ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County Schools is enrolling kindergarten students now for the 2016-2017 school year. All schools provide academics, arts, physical education, and music under the direction of high-quality teachers.

Students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 of the current school year to start kindergarten.

Gather these materials:

— Certified copy of your child’s birth certificate

— Proof of residence

— Immunization Record

— Kindergarten Health Assessment

— Social Security Card

— Visit your child’s area school to enroll. Call ahead to schedule an appointment.

For incoming kindergarten students only:

— North Carolina law requires that a completed Kindergarten Health Assessment be completed on or before the first day of school before a child can enter kindergarten. The health assessment must be completed no more than 12 months prior to the date of entry. Physical examination forms are available at Bladen County schools, area doctors’ offices or at the Bladen County Health Department. Parents whose children do not have a regular physician can get health assessments and immunizations through the Bladen County Health Department. First-time appointments should call 910-862-6900.

— Need a Birth Certificate? Parents of children born in Bladen County may now order certified birth certificates on the Bladen County Register of Deeds website.
