DUBLIN — Bladen Community will honor men and women who have served the country in the armed forces during a Veteran’s Day presentation on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in the college auditorium (building 9).

Guest speaker and Elizabethtown native U.S. Army Command Sgt. Major Leroy Purdie Jr. will address the assembly. CSM Purdie served in the Army from 1986 until 2008 with distinctive service as a flight operations specialist. He led the Battalion to Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor on Christmas Eve 1995.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology, a masters of art degree in human resource development, an education specialist degree, and a doctor of education degree.

CSM Purdie’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Ribbon.

As part of the Veteran’s Day tribute, the college will host an exhibit of military artifacts and memorabilia. The public is invited to hear Purdie speak and view the military exhibit.
