DURHAM — Jacqueline DeVane, a licensed practical nurse from Sutton Station Internal Medicine, was awarded the 2014 Friends of Nursing LPN Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice.
Mary Ann Fuchs, the vice president of patient care and system chief nurse executive, made a surprise visit to the Duke Medicine clinic on Monday, July 14, to present the award to DeVane.
A Friends of Nursing Excellence Award is one of the highest honors a Duke nurse can receive. Every year, hundreds of nurses are nominated for their exemplary professional practice by patients, patient families and colleagues.
Winners for 36 awards are selected by committees of their peers. Excellence Award recipients are recognized at the annual Friends of Nursing Gala, where they are celebrated by Duke University Health System leaders, colleagues, friends and family. They also receive a trophy, a gold pin and a $1,000 education stipend.
DeVane is a 2000 graduate of Bladen Community College. She is the daughter of the late Rosa Belle “Lil Bit” McDowell and the Rev. Johnnie W. Drye.
She has previously worked at Bladen County Hospital, Bladen Medical Associates and Cottle Medical Group.
