LUMBERTON — A Proctorville man was arrested this weekend after robbing his uncle and holding two friends at gunpoint before stealing their car, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Lee Anthony Hunt Jr., 27, is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, larceny of a firearm, first-degree kidnapping and injury to real property for stealing a car and shotgun belonging to Carey Daniels and Daniels’ girlfriend, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Hunt, who lives on Spruce Street, has not been charged for allegedly taking his uncle’s golf cart and television on Friday.

According to a police report, Daniels was watching television at his Water Tower Road home on Friday when Hunt came in the side door at about 7 p.m. Hunt told Daniels he needed to talk to him and the pair went outside, the report said. While outside, Hunt asked Daniels if he could use his phone and computer. Hunt agreed and they went inside.

After sitting at the computer “for a minute,” Hunt got up and grabbed a shotgun from beside Daniels’ bed and pointed it at Daniels’ head, demanding he hand over his car keys, the report said. According to the report, Hunt tried to force Daniels into the car and when he refused, drove the blue Ford Expedition through the fence. The car is valued at $8,500.

At about 11:30 that night, deputies received a call about a man sitting in a golf cart on Lovett Road near Old Kingsdale Road in Lumberton, according to Thompson. Deputies arrived and found the golf cart and a television.

The deputies spotted Hunt about a quarter mile away on Lovett Road near Rice Road and found there were multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest related to misdemeanors.

Thompson said he anticipates Hunt will soon be charged with stealing from his uncle, Roger Dean Hunt, who lives on Bowman Road, five miles from where the golf cart was found.

Hunt has been placed under a $150,000 secured bond.
