MAXTON — A week after his father was charged with hitting a neighbor with a truck and beating the man up, a 25-year-old Maxton man is now under arrest for his role in the incident, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Justin Porter, of Rose Road, was charged Tuesday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, the same charge his father, 49-year-old Jerry Porter, faces, according to arrest reports.
Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives, said the Porters accused their neighbor Gary Jacobs of stealing from them before striking him with their truck on Montford Road on Feb. 20.
Thompson said the Porters knocked Jacobs down, beat him in the face with sticks and threw him in a ditch. Jacobs was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital with both eyes swollen shut, Thompson said.
Justin Porter has been placed under a $20,000 bond.
