LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man is in the hospital after his son shot him in the chest during a dispute, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Murchison Ray Smith, 40, is being treated at Southeastern Regional Medical Center for a gunshot wound in his chest, Thompson said. His son, 19-year-old Murchison Smith Jr., has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Smith and his wife were arguing at their Yedda Road home on Friday just before midnight when his son “got involved,” Thompson said. When deputies arrived, they found Murchison Ray Smith in a neighbor’s yard a few homes away.
Murchison Smith Jr. made his $10,000 unsecured bond before being jailed.
