LUMBERTON — A Fayetteville Road bank swarmed by police Friday afternoon was not robbed, although an arrest unrelated to the bank did follow.

“Basically, what it was was some suspicious activity outside the bank, but there’s nothing that leads us to believe there was an attempted robbery,” Lt. Harold Jackson said.

Jackson said people saw three men standing outside of the Lumbee Guaranty Bank before walking behind it towards The Oaks neighborhood.

Jackson said for the sake of caution, the situation was treated as a potential robbery.

“Folks didn’t know if that was these guys’ intention,” he said.

About 10 police cars arrived and stopped a red vehicle by the bank that was also carrying three men.

“After investigating it was found that what they were doing was unrelated,” Jackson said.

One lane of Fayetteville Road was temporarily blocked off as the car was stopped and impounded.

About 10 ounces of marijuana were seized from the vehicle and one of its occupants was arrested, according to Officer Cedrique Bridges.

John Faulk, 24, of Pruitt Street, Lumberton, is charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and maintaining a drug vehicle.

A bond has not yet been set for Faulk. The other two occupants were released, Bridges said.
