Bladen Lakes Primary School recently sent a team to present at the state education department’s Collaborative Conference for Student Achievement. The team — Reida Roberts, the school’s principal; Karen Ruffin-Johnson, second-grade teacher; William McMillan, physical education teacher; and Bill Rudin, second-grade teacher — all worked as a team to present a 90-minute conference session titled ‘Using Social Media to Boost Student Achievement at the Elementary Level.’ About 65 school professionals attended the session. The team explained how Bladen Lakes Primary School involves students in social media tools such as YouTube, Gmail, wikis and message boards. The presentation included a look at the school’s live WeatherBug camera, a few of the school’s weekly YouTube Friday Messages, and student-led BookTube book reports.
