DUBLIN — Mallory Davis, a West Bladen High senior who recently signed to player her collegiate volleyball at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, was selected Player of the Year by coaches in the Four County Conference.
Davis recently helped lead her Lady Knights team to a 12-9 record that included the Four County Conference Class 2-A championship.
“(Mallory) focused on one sport and worked to excel at it,” said her coach and mother, Gaye Davis, recently. “She didn’t want to spread herself too thin by playing other sports.”
During her senior season at West Bladen, Mallory Davis contributed a total of 240 service winners, 47 aces, 192 kills and 137 blocks. Those numbers, along with her high academic standing — she is No. 10 in her class of 194 seniors — helped her to be named the Mountaire Farms/Civitas Media Scholar Athlete of the Month for October.
East Bladen had a total of 10 athletes chosen for all-conference honors this past fall.
In football, the Eagles placed Farrell Murchison, Jaylan Herring, Alex Stephens, Larrell Murchison and Jaquan Jones on the first team.
In soccer, Matthew Massengill and Alex Felder were each named to the first team.
Abby Norris was the lone Lady Eagle to be named to the volleyball first team.
In tennis, Leighanne Kelly and Kathryn Cole were named to the first team.
West Bladen had a total of nine athletes named to all-conference first teams.
In football the Knights had Ed Owens, Parker Allen, Malcolm Vaught and Colby Lewis tabbed for first-team honors.
In soccer, Clay Allen was the lone Knight named to the first team.
In volleyball, aside from Davis being named the Player of the Year, the Lady Knights had Courtney Thompson selected to the first team.
