Two Bladen County basketball stars have garnered another post-season honor, this time from the online service NCPreps.com.
Lacey Suggs, a sophomore at East Bladen High who helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 28-2 record and run to the East Regionals this past season, was named to the Class 2-A All-State team by the online service.
Suggs, who averaged 19.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 2.7 assists per game during the season, was the Four County Conference Player of the Year and has been named to The Fayetteville Observer’s All-Cape Fear Region first team. She was also recently tabbed to the District 4 first team by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association, as well as the All-Area second team by the Wilmington StarNews.
Courtney Thompson, a senior at West Bladen High who recently signed to play her collegiate basketball for Methodist University, was also named to the NCPreps.com Class 2-A All-State team.
Thompson, who averaged 17 points and 17.7 rebounds per game, helped lead the Lady Knights to the playoffs before finishing the season at 13-11. Her 425 total rebounds as a senior placed her at No. 4 on the state’s career rebounding list with 1,403. She was recently named to the Four County Conference’s first team, the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association’s District 4 second team, The Fayetteville Observer’s All-Cape Fear Region second team and the Wilmington StarNews’ All-Area first team.
