Some do not know, others should remember — White Lake had an ABC store, but it closed within a year because not enough revenue came in to support it.
Three different times a bar was opened in the former Front Porch Restaurant building. Each one of those bars were taken out because of the lack of revenue.
Remember when people in Clarkton pushed for the sale of beer and wine because they wanted the revenue, so the town established a police force? Two years after the police force was established, it no longer existed because of the lack of funds.
Consider these trials and failures, as well as the fact that the problems caused from the use of beer and alcohol outweigh the advantages. It will bring in little revenue; it is of little value to our citizens; taxpayers will pay out more money to rehabilitate addicts that the amount of revenue taken in; there will be increased drunken driving, domestic violence, as well as street gangs — all of which will lead to the need for more law enforcement.
Plus, our young people do not need this temptation.
And who pays for all these problems? We the citizens.
Please think long and hard before you go to the polls. We are counting on you: Cast your vote against the sale of county-wide beer and wine.
A concerned citizen,
