DUBLIN — Bladen Community College, in conjunction with NC REAL, the area Cooperative Extension centers, the NC Bio Ag Center at Robeson Community College, and other area community colleges, will host an introductory seminar for area farmers and aspiring farmers on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The program will be held in Building 2, Room 207, on the BCC main campus.

The purpose of the seminar is to help area individuals interested in production farming enterprises to learn about what it takes to start or expand an ag-related business and resources available to make their farm-businesses more profitable. Participants will learn about upcoming opportunities to help start or expand their farm-related businesses. This includes a series of seven free seminars discussing the business side of farming for individuals who have a farm or small plot of land, want to start a farm or are passing their farm to their children.

All types of farm-related businesses are encouraged to attend. This series will conclude with a regional business plan competition open to individuals in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus and Robeson counties.

The series is a part of the Growing REAL Agriculture Based Entrepreneurship in Southeastern North Carolina initiative funded by the USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant Program. NC REAL is a nonprofit organization that grows entrepreneurship in North Carolina by training teachers, supporting local entrepreneurship programs, and developing timely, hands-on entrepreneurial curriculum.

Though pre-registration is not required, it is encouraged.

For information on or to register for the introductory seminar, call Todd Lyden at the Bladen Community College Small Business Center at 879-5572 or email him at tlyden@bladencc.edu.
