ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen County Republican Party is planning its fourth annual Fall Fling for Saturday, Oct. 5, from 4 until 6:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Elizabethtown. The event is free and open to the public. The purpose of the forum is give Republican candidates a chance to speak and meet with local residents. Bladen County Republican Party Chairman Joyce Britt said there will be candidates for both local and state offices at the event, as well as candidates seeking election to the N.C. Supreme Court and the N.C. Court of Appeals. She added that candidates will be speaking for about 5 minutes each and, after the forum, there will be time for folks to speak one-on-one with the candidates. “This is one of our largest fundraising events of the year. Our emcee for the evening will be Justice Marion Warren,” said Britt. Warren, who serves as a district court judge for the 13th Judicial District, was appointed by then Gov. Jim Hunt on Aug. 9, 2000, to replace Ola M. Lewis. Warren was re-elected to his seat in Nov. 2012 and his term will expire in 2016, according to the website judgepedia.org. Prior to be appointed as district court judge, Warren served as assistant district attorney in the 13 Prosecutorial District — which includes Bladen, Brunswick and Columbus counties. Also attending will be N.C. Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope. “Chairman Claude Pope was born in Dunn, raised in Raleigh, and now lives at Bald Head Island,” said Britt. She also said several candidates have confirmed their attendance. “Some of our elected officials that have confirmed to attend are District Attorny Jon David; N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Robert N. Hunter Jr.; and District Court Judge Paul A. Holcombe III. There are many candidates who have confirmed as well,” said Britt. Britt said there will also be hot dogs available with all the fixings and a live auction. There is also a raffle for a Mossberg 500 shotgun — tickets are one for $5 each or five for $20.
