LUMBERTON — Two pedestrians were killed when they were struck by vehicles in separate accidents on Sunday.

First Sgt. Ardeen Hunt of the state Highway Patrol said 24-year-old Jeffery Jakwan Quick, of 4565 W. Dew Road, Rowland, was killed in a hit-and-run accident while walking on the southbound lane of Interstate 95.

“The weather conditions at the time were very foggy,” Hunt said.

Hunt said the accident occurred at 3:49 a.m., about four miles south of Lumberton and approximately 400 feet away from Exit 10.

Hunt said a “collision reconstruction team” from Fayetteville is helping the state Highway Patrol with the investigation.

In an unrelated incident, 48-year-old Allegra Charlene McCoy, of 3271 E. Great Marsh Church Road, was struck at 11:13 p.m. as she walked down the eastbound lane of Great Marsh Church Road.

“She was wearing dark clothing and was struck by the vehicle,” Hunt said.

Sabiola Santes-Tolentino, 32, of 3283 E. Great Marsh Church Road, was driving eastward in a 1996 Ford SUV when the vehicle struck McCoy, ran off the left and stopped in a canal.

McCoy was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. There was an estimated $2,000 worth of damage done to the vehicle.

Hunt said Santes-Tolentino, who was traveling the posted speed limit of 55 mph, does not face any charges. Neither he nor a 12-year-old passenger in his vehicle were injured.
