WHITE OAK — Harmony Hall Plantation got a much-needed shot in the arm this week, thanks to the Bladen Journal’s annual Community Directory.

“We are strictly funded by contributions and fundraisers. We are totally independent,” said Field Marshal Bobby Lewis. “This was greatly appreciated. We need to paint and this is most helpful in that.”

Harmony Hall receives no additional funding from federal, state, or local agencies, said Lewis.

He added the funds came at time when there are great needs at the Bladen County historic site. Lewis said some of the under structure needs maintenance as well as other small repairs, a roof, and some general cleaning and painting.

“We are hoping we can do this maintenance this year,” said Lewis of the maintenance issues.

In addition to monetary assistance, the group is also hoping to attract volunteers.

There is also a cleanup scheduled for Harmony Hall on Saturday. The cleanup effort will include leaf and limb removal, painting the main house, and general cleaning.

“We need trucks, trailers, and garden and yard tools, for the work day,” said Lewis.

The volunteers and staff of Harmony Hall are gearing up for their annual Christmas tours and as well as looking forward to next year, Lewis.

“We are sorely in need of tour guides and volunteers for Sundays from 2 until 4 p.m.,” said Lewis. “Just about anything anybody wants to do, we’ve got a place for them.”

If you would like to volunteer or make a donation, contact Lewis at 910-874-4011.
