ELIZABETHTOWN — There was an air of excitement as the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce members gathered and met at a new venue — the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market — on Tuesday for its monthly luncheon. The meeting was attended by 28 people representing various businesses and government entities throughout Elizabethtown and the area.

The long-time venue for the Chamber’s monthly meetings has been the Front Porch Restaurant, which closed its doors in October leaving the Chamber without a location for its monthly meetings.

Chamber Executive Director Dawn Maynard told the guests that, after consulting with Elizabethtown Town Manager Eddie Madden, the town staff agreed to host the meeting at the Farmer’s Market.

“I was texting Eddie’s (Madden) phone (asking about possibly using the Farmer’s Market),” said Maynard.

The keynote speaker for the meeting was UNC-Pembroke’s Givens Performing Arts Center Executive Director Patricia Fields.

She discussed the Performing Arts Center and its various programs, as well as how folks can become involved in supporting the center through donations and business sponsorships.

She highlighted the fact that, in October, the Givens Performing Arts Center was able to present Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

“They had two buses and four trucks … ” said Fields.

In April 2014, they will also host the Russian National Ballet as they perform “Giselle.”

“This ballet is said to make or break careers,” reads the brochure from Givens Performing Arts Center.

She also told the group about the availability of a diner’s club menu whereby folks can come early for certain shows and have a gourmet meal prior to the event of their choice.

After her presentation she gave away tickets to three events at the performing arts center.
