Laurel Hill man investigated by Secret Service
Said Obama ‘needed his head blown off’
LAUREL HILL — A Laurel Hill man was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service last week for saying President Barack Obama “needed his head blown off,” according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Shep Jones said his department got a call from the Secret Service, who asked for help in investigating Edward Burr, 39, of Marston Road. The service was contacted by state police, who was called by the Raleigh Employment Security Office when they overheard Burr making comments they felt were a threat to Obama’s safety.
Burr “didn’t like the information he received. He blamed Obama and said he needed his head blown off,” Jones said.
Burr allegedly made the comments on Jan. 14, a day before Obama was scheduled to speak at N.C. State.
“The timing of it was suspicious,” Jones said.
Burr received a warning from the Secret Service, Jones said, but was not arrested or charged with a crime.
